Gay Men’s Nightlife
This chapter is for gay and bi men, and for other men who have sex with men. It covers the bars, clubs, sex clubs and saunas where men go for men, plus apps, escorts and the street. Lesbian bars and trans venues are left out unless men actually go there.
The scene has three centers. The biggest is the Zona Rosa in Colonia Juárez, a grid of short streets (Amberes, Londres, Florencia, Niza, Génova) a few blocks from the Ángel. It is cheap and crowded, with dozens of bars packed close together and a young crowd. The second is República de Cuba in the Centro, one block of old buildings with drag bars and cantinas, a bit rougher and a lot of fun. The third is spread out across Roma, Condesa and Hipódromo, where you find the leather bar, the bigger weekend clubs and the queer cocktail places.
Nights start late and run Thursday to Sunday. Nobody arrives at a club before midnight. Many bars have no cover; others charge 50–350 pesos (~3–18 USD), and beer can be as cheap as 20 pesos. Some clubs run a barra libre (open bar) for the first hours, so arriving early pays. In the Zona Rosa, ask prices before you order, pay per round and check the bill and the tip line, because some bills grow when you’re not looking.
The Marcha del Orgullo (Pride) is usually the last Saturday of June. It goes from the Ángel de la Independencia down Reforma, Avenida Juárez and 5 de Mayo to the Zócalo. In 2026 it was the 48th march, on Saturday 27 June. Hotels in Juárez and Roma fill up, and the parties that weekend are the biggest of the year.
Get around by app taxi (Uber, DiDi) or a sitio taxi, not one hailed on the street. Leave your passport in the hotel safe and carry one card and some cash.
Bars
Zona Rosa and Juárez
Most bars are within three or four blocks of each other, so you can walk between them. Start on Amberes and work your way down Londres and Florencia.
Kinky Bar · Amberes 1, at Reforma

Abrazarnos · Hamburgo 310
Queer cocktail lounge in an old house, with DJs and themed rooms. Opened in 2025; reserve a room by Instagram message. A calm first drink before the Zona Rosa. Source.
On Amberes you’ll also find strip and go-go bars such as Macho Dance Bar and The Babilon Club. Reviews of some of them complain about padded bills, so pay as you go. Kilens on Londres is a drag club with DJs on Friday and Saturday, and rarely has a line.
Centro: República de Cuba
One short block of República de Cuba, between Eje Central and República de Chile, has several gay bars a few doors apart. It is cheaper, more local and more fun than the Zona Rosa. The city shut several of these bars for overcrowding in January 2025, and they have since reopened. The streets around are dark and empty late at night, so leave by app taxi.
La Purísima · República de Cuba 17
“La Puri.” A dark dance bar with a big statue of the Virgin at the back, pop ballads and strobes. There is often a line on weekends, and it moves. Source.
Marrakech Salón · República de Cuba 18

Sex Clubs, Dark Rooms and Cinemas
The system is much the same everywhere. You pay at the door (usually with a drink included), show ID if asked (18+), and check your clothes, wallet and phone at the guardarropa (coat check) for a ticket. Some places sell or lend a towel or shorts; most people end up in underwear or less. Inside there are dark rooms, mazes, private cabins (cabinas) that lock, glory holes and video rooms. Condoms and lube are usually free at the bar or in bowls. Staff walk through every so often. No photos, and no means no.
These are licensed private venues, and what adults do in them by consent is legal. Sex in public places, such as parks and the Metro, is not. Older guides list the Alameda, the Ciudadela and the woods at Ciudad Universitaria for outdoor cruising; there are reports of theft and extortion there, so I’d stay indoors.
Tom’s (above) and Blow Bar and [sic] (above) also have dark rooms.
Sexto Piso · Eje Central 123, 6th floor
The best known. Men only, with a maze, a big dark room, glory holes, private cabins, a mirrored dome and a room fitted out as a Metro car. Leather and puppy groups meet here, there are techno nights, and AHF México does free HIV tests. Monday to Thursday 2–10 PM, Friday and Saturday 3 PM – 1 AM, Sunday 1 PM – 1 AM. Entry 100–150 pesos (~5–8 USD).
Dallas Club · Génova 34, 2nd floor, Zona Rosa
From the Sexto Piso team, opened around 2022. Two floors of dark rooms, cabins, a maze, a sling area, a porn cinema and a mirrored room, with a small bar. Men in their 20s and 30s, locals and visitors. Opens at midday; the Saturday party, Rieles Dallas, is the busiest. Entry 50–150 pesos (~3–8 USD), depending on day and time. Source.
Funny Love · Eje Central 76, 2nd floor, Centro
More than 70 cabins, a dark room and a bar, near Metro San Juan de Letrán. Busy in the daytime. About 100 pesos (~5 USD) with a drink.
Funny Love Zona Rosa · Londres 112
The smaller branch, with cabins, a dark room and a bar. Source.
La Casita · Insurgentes Sur 228, Roma Norte
A no-frills cruise club with dark rooms, glory holes and a video room. No bar, showers or lockers. Open from 3 PM into the early morning, about 140 pesos (~7 USD). Door staff speak little English. One guide marks it closed, so check before you go.
Porn cinemas
The old cinemas in the Centro still run porn all day for one ticket, and men go there for each other. They are cheap and shabby, and they’re mostly for older local men.
Cine Savoy · Pasaje Savoy, Eje Central at 16 de Septiembre
At the end of a shopping arcade. Two screens, one straight and one gay, and everyone there is a man. About 60 pesos (~3 USD), and you can stay all day. Background.
Cinema Río · República de Cuba 85
Mostly a straight couples’ cinema, but Sala 1 is men only. A few blocks east of the gay bars.
Saunas and Baños de Vapor
There are two kinds. The new club saunas (Sodome, Club Olimpo) are gay, with a bar, music, lockers and a dark room. The old baños de vapor are neighborhood steam baths, most of them decades old, where working men come to sweat and get a massage. Several have been gay meeting places for generations, and the activity happens in the steam room and the private rooms, but it is not a gay business and some men there are straight. Be discreet. Take your cue from the others, and don’t assume.
At a baño you pay at the desk for vapor general (the shared steam room) or rent a privado (private room with its own steam). They give you a towel, sometimes sandals, and a locker or a room for your things. Bring flip-flops, cash and as little as possible. Massages cost extra; agree on the price first.
Sodome · Mariano Escobedo 716-A, Anzures
The best gay sauna in the city, just northwest of the Zona Rosa. Bar and dance floor, foam room, dark maze, steam room, dry sauna, jacuzzi, lockers and cabins, with free condoms and lube. Theme nights and DJs are posted on Instagram. Closed Tuesday; busiest Thursday to Sunday evenings, and open from early morning at weekends. 250–400 pesos (~13–21 USD) depending on the day.
Club Olimpo · Amberes 15A, Zona Rosa
Men only, opened in 2024 on three floors with sauna, steam, jacuzzi, bar, maze and cabins. Mostly local men. Cover 300–400 pesos (~16–21 USD). Recent reviews mention cold water and some upkeep problems. They take your cigarettes and lighter at the door.
Baños Finisterre · Manuel María Contreras 11, San Rafael
Open since 1954, three blocks from Metro San Cosme, and the classic gay baño. Steam rooms, wet and dry sauna, private rooms and massage. Daily 6 AM – 9 PM. Busiest on weekend mornings, when men come straight from the clubs. 100–150 pesos (~5–8 USD), more for a private room or massage.
Baños Señorial · Isabel la Católica 92, Centro
A traditional bath with steam, Turkish bath and sauna, and private rooms with TVs where you can bring drinks and guests. Older crowd. Monday to Saturday 6 AM – 9 PM, Sunday until 7 PM; Sunday is busiest. Time Out’s 2016 review gave 125 pesos for general steam; expect more now.
Baños San Ciprián · Cerrada San Ciprián 97, La Merced
An old-school men’s steam bath by the Merced market, with steam rooms, cabins, massage and a dark room. Mostly local men and very cheap, about 85 pesos (~4.50 USD). La Merced is not a place to wander after dark.
Baños Puerto Vallarta · Ermita Iztapalapa 1137, Iztapalapa
A working-class baño far out in Iztapalapa, with steam and massage. Only if you’re curious. Thefts from lockers have been reported, so carry nothing you’d miss.
Baños Ecuador, Mina, San Juan and La Toalla, which you may see in older guides, have closed.
Restaurants and Cafés
El Sirenito · Oaxaca 137, Roma Norte
Seafood with a drag show, in the style of the old dinner-shows: live singing and impersonations of Juan Gabriel, Cher and the rest. Reservations by Instagram are essential and it sells out days ahead. Shows have been on Wednesday afternoon and Friday and Saturday nights, with tickets from about 800 pesos (~42 USD). One 2025 source gives an address on Nuevo León in Hipódromo, so confirm the location when you book. Source.

Apps
Grindr is the app everyone uses here, and in Roma or the Zona Rosa your screen fills the moment you open it. Scruff and Hornet have smaller followings, Romeo is mostly visitors, and Tinder is for dates. Locals move to WhatsApp quickly, and many profiles say discreto, which means just that.
The robbery-by-date problem is real. N+ counted close to a hundred men in Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Jalisco drugged and robbed after Grindr meetings, with the same method in use since 2019. In January 2026 police arrested three men who set up dates through the app, drugged the men and emptied their homes. Gangs known as goteros work the same way in the bars, putting eye drops in drinks of men they pick up in the Zona Rosa and Condesa and then calling their friends to clear out the apartment. You’ll also hear of burundanga (scopolamine).
- Meet in a bar or café first. Do a video call before anyone comes to your room.
- Watch your drink and don’t accept one you didn’t see poured. A bottle someone brings along counts.
- Be wary of someone who pushes to come over right away, avoids video, asks for money or top-ups, or wants your address before you’ve met.
- Tell a friend who you’re meeting and where, and keep your passport and spare cards in the safe.
- Show your guest out yourself, and if you’re in an Airbnb, know that a stranger now knows where you’re staying.
Street Sex Work
Sex work between adults is legal in Mexico City. When the city Congress passed the new Ley de Cultura Cívica in 2019, it included a clause that fined sex work, and after protests by sex workers it repealed that clause. Pimping (lenocinio), trafficking and anything at all involving a minor are serious crimes with long prison terms.
Male street sex work has long been concentrated in the Zona Rosa and Juárez, along Hamburgo and Reforma between Varsovia and Burdeos. Vice counted about 120 men there on weekend nights, working roughly 10 PM to 5 AM, each on his own and taking clients to nearby hotels. Other spots are the edges of the Alameda, La Ciudadela and Garibaldi, and Calzada de Tlalpan and Insurgentes Sur around the Glorieta de los Insurgentes (source).
Plenty of the men who pick up on the street are looking for trans women rather than men. Trans sex workers work Puente de Alvarado (the corner with Aldama is known as “la Nissan”), Calzada de Tlalpan and Insurgentes Sur. They face a lot of violence, much of it from clients and police.
- Agree on the price and what it covers before you go anywhere, and pay as agreed.
- Use a hotel de paso (hourly hotel) rather than your own hotel. They are everywhere, discreet, and paid in cash by the room.
- Carry only the cash you need. Leave your passport and cards behind.
- Condoms, always, and bring your own.
- No means no, from either side.
Adults only. If someone looks underage, walk away. Other signs of trafficking: someone else does the talking or takes the money, the person seems scared or scripted, has no phone or ID of their own, or can’t leave. Report it to the Consejo Ciudadano’s national anti-trafficking line, 800 5533 000, or its 24-hour line, 55 5533 5533. In an emergency call 911.
Escorts, Mileroticos and Rent Boys
Most paid sex here is arranged online. Mileroticos and Skokka are the big classifieds sites in Mexico, and both have sections for men. Rentboys and masseurs who aim at foreigners, and charge accordingly, are on Rent.Men and RentMasseur. Grindr is full of guys who’ll mention money once you start chatting. Spanish helps. The usual terms are escort, chico de compañía and masajista, and con lugar or sin lugar means whether he hosts.
The same law applies: between adults it’s legal, pimping and anything with a minor is not.
- Verify. Ask for a video call or a current photo with a gesture you choose. Old or professional photos are a warning sign.
- Don’t pay in advance. Requests for a deposit, a “transport fee” or a transfer to “confirm” are the commonest scam. Pay in cash, in person.
- Meet in your hotel lobby first. Then go up together. Many hotels register every visitor with ID at the front desk, and some charge a guest fee or don’t allow visitors at all, so check before you book. An Airbnb may have a no-guest rule.
- Agree up front on time, price and what’s included. Extending is fine; changing the deal afterwards is not.
- Lock up valuables before he arrives, and don’t share drinks you didn’t pour.
- Blackmail threats after the fact (“pay or I tell your family”) come up now and then. Don’t pay, block, and report it.
Health
PrEP, PEP and testing. The public Clínica Especializada Condesa at Benjamín Hill 24 offers free HIV and STI tests, PrEP, PEP and HIV treatment, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 8 PM. A second clinic is in Iztapalapa, and in 2026 the city merged them into the Sistema Condesa, with a third clinic planned in Gustavo A. Madero. The App CDMX has a Clínica Condesa module for PrEP and PEP questionnaires and appointments. Bring your passport and expect a wait.
PEP has to start within 72 hours, the sooner the better. If it’s the weekend and the clinic is closed, go to a private hospital emergency room.
Clínica Especializada Condesa · Benjamín Hill 24, Hipódromo Condesa
Monday to Friday, 7 AM – 8 PM. Free. Source.
Clínica Especializada Condesa Iztapalapa · Av. Combate de Celaya s/n, U.H. Vicente Guerrero, Iztapalapa
Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 3 PM. Free. Source.
The Centro Comunitario de Atención a la Diversidad Sexual at Génova 30 in the Zona Rosa also does free tests on weekdays, and Sexto Piso has testing by AHF México.
Condoms are free at the Clínica Condesa and in most sex clubs and saunas. Pharmacies and Oxxo sell them too.
Mpox cases in the city rose sharply in 2025. If you’re not vaccinated, get both doses at home before the trip.
Drugs. Pills and powders sold in clubs are often not what the seller says, and fentanyl has turned up. Instituto RIA runs Checa tu sustancia, a free and anonymous drug-checking service that sets up at events; follow them for dates. Don’t mix G with alcohol. Drink water: you’re at 2,240 meters, and alcohol hits harder up here.
Drinks. Never accept a drink that’s already open, and don’t leave yours behind on the bar.
Going with a Guide
If you’d rather not work all this out alone, Saúl runs a bar tour and an underground tour of gay Mexico City that takes in the saunas and the clubs with dark rooms. He gets you in and explains the house rules. See Tours with Saúl.
